A deeper space to understand, repair, and reconnect.

Couples intensives in Atlanta and virtual formats designed to help partners move beyond stuck patterns and into meaningful change.

Many couples come to therapy feeling caught in repeating cycles—conflict that escalates quickly, conversations that go nowhere, or distance that continues to grow despite effort and care. Weekly therapy can be helpful, but often limited by time. Just as something important begins to surface, the session ends. Couples intensives create the space to slow down, stay with emotional experiences, and work through patterns in a more complete and connected way. At Lumi, intensives are not simply longer sessions—they are a different depth of work.

For couples, an intensive is often recommended prior to beginning weekly therapy — creating meaningful momentum that makes ongoing sessions significantly more productive and effective.

How Couples Intensives Work

Intensives are extended sessions (or multiple sessions over a short period) that allow us to:

  • Stay engaged with meaningful emotional material

  • Interrupt patterns in real time

  • Move beyond surface-level communication

  • Create new relational experiences

This format is especially helpful for couples who feel stuck, are navigating a significant transition, or want to accelerate progress.

Our Approach

Attachment-Based Therapy
We help each partner understand the emotional needs and protective responses underlying conflict, reducing blame and increasing empathy.

Psychodynamic Insight
We explore how each partner's history shapes their expectations, fears, and reactions within the relationship.

Nervous System and Somatic Work
Using relational movement practices, including Chi for Two®, and personalized somatic interventions, we help couples regulate in real time and remain present during difficult moments.

Experiential and Psychodrama Techniques
We guide couples through structured experiences that allow them to practice new ways of communicating and relating.

Skills and Communication
We provide tools for repair, communication, and emotional regulation that can be used outside of sessions.

What We Help With

  • Recurring conflict cycles

  • Emotional disconnection

  • Communication breakdowns

  • Trust and betrayal

  • Life transitions (moving in together, pregnancy, parenting)

  • Differences in emotional needs or expectations

Who This Is For

Couples intensives may be a good fit if:

  • You feel stuck in patterns that aren't changing

  • You want to address something significant more directly

  • You're motivated to engage deeply in the process

  • You want to complement ongoing therapy with focused work

Why Intensives Work

Couples intensives are effective because they allow for:

  • Continuity — staying with the work rather than starting and stopping

  • Depth — accessing underlying emotional experiences

  • Regulation — learning to stay present rather than reactive

  • New experiences — creating moments of connection and understanding in real time

This creates shifts that often take much longer in weekly therapy.
